1. What was the sherrif reffering to when he said "six hundred pounds of angry African flesh"?
2. What was the purpose of the "mud people" cries?

  1. Question 1. Page 54: To me the sheriff said "six hundred pounds of angry African flesh" because he was describing the two "biggest, blackest bloods" that were going to take Bernard out of the cage that he was in and take him to Jesse and Eddy, and Dr. Wooden.
    I know this because on page 54 the sheriff says to Jesse "Well Mr. Lawyer... I just now ordered up two of the biggest, blackest bloods in the house to manhandle that fool out here for a visit. Six hundred pounds of angry African flesh is gonna drag that idiot out here because you want to see him." (Vea, 54)

  2. 1) When the sheriff said that he was referi ng to the two african american guys that were going to bring Bernard out. They were described as angry because they knew Bernard didnt like African Americans.
    2)Bernard cried mud people to describe the guys that were taking him out of the cell and also because he wanted to describe how he thought black people looked.
